Still Painting breeding cages. Most of my stock is ready to go down. Only putting Pairs down that hens are trying to build nests as I get the cages ready. Also Cocks will have to be right as well, If not I will change cock for this 1st round.

1st 2 eggs today off the Red Black Cobalts. last year I couldnt wait. This year I wanted them down the end of March to give me time to finish painting cages. All the rest of the hens are coming in to condition. Got up early this morning to do some painting,so hopefully I get a few more done. Had more hens than I thought.

Very nice set up John with some lovely birds good luck with the breeding season. Nothing better than seeing your birds in freshly painted cages, just wish they stayed like that!!

I have 1 crested Mosaic red black cobalt cock f1, 1 crested Mosaic Red Black cobalt hen f1, 1 Crested Mosaic red black pastel greywing hen. 2 x Plainhead Mosaic red Black Pastel greywing hens f1 & 1 Plainhead Mosaic Red Black Cobalt hen f1 going down. 1st round out Pastel greywings f2. Only letting rear their 1st round as dont to be over run with them, going to switch eggs next 2 rounds. These should be excellent rearers as the parents were 1st class. Everything going well at the moment with just 2 nest clear eggs the other 18 nests are full.

It suits me as its easy to clean out. Every 3 days unless the hen rips the newspaper to shreds.

Update @ 29/3/12
I have 8 chicks ringed, and 3 nests more hatched out today and should be ringing 4 chicks on sunday. Everything seems to be going great with only 2 nests of clear eggs. 1 which I knew 1 would be clear as the cock was not 100% but had to take a chance as hen was ready to lay. Also a strange on another nest of 6 eggs I fostered out 1 egg to another nest with 3 eggs in it, when checking the nest of 5 eggs they were all clear but when checking the other nest of 3 + 1 other egg it was full, so maybe I introduced the cock to late or hen wasnt incubating tightly. Must watch her on 2nd round.
So happy enought right now. Have Red black cobalts, red blacks, Agate Opals, Satinettes, Clear reds, Yellow Black Onyx. Oh a Stafford here & there..lol
